- Starting on Tuesday, Afghanistan and Pakistan will play three One Day International (ODI) matches.
- The Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota will host the first two games.
A grueling three-match One Day International (ODI) series between Afghanistan and Pakistan is scheduled to take place; it will serve as a training phase for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and the eagerly awaited World Cup 2023. From August 22 to August 26, these cricketing extravaganzas will take place at two prestigious Sri Lankan grounds, the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota and the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota will host the opening salvos of this historic match, where the first two matches will be hotly contested. The thrilling series’ conclusion will be at Colombo’s venerable R. Premadasa Stadium.
After winning a 2-1 away series against Bangladesh just one month ago, this series marks Afghanistan’s dramatic return to the ODI arena. On the other hand, Pakistan enters this match with confidence after winning a 2-1 home series against New Zealand in May.
These two cricketing legends have already faced off against one another this year. In March 2023, they competed in a thrilling three-game Twenty20 International (T20I) series in Sharjah, where Afghanistan triumphed spectacularly, 2-1, over Pakistan. It’s interesting to note that during that series, Pakistan was without the services of important players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi.
Pakistan has won all four of their prior meetings in the sparsely populated ODI series. Babar will once again be in charge of leading Pakistan during this series, with Shadab Khan serving as his assistant. Afghanistan will continue to come together under Hashmatullah Shahidi’s unwavering leadership as the series’ hosts.
Following the end of this thrilling match, both sides will travel to Pakistan, where the eagerly awaited Asia Cup 2023 will get underway with Pakistan and Nepal playing each other on August 30 in Multan.
