Instagram Reels allows users to shoot and share video, add filters and music from Instagram’s catalog, beyond the platform.
Instagram released its own short video app in India called Reels. The new feature lets users make videos on the web, add and share innovative filters and music beyond their daily followers, Product VP Vishal Shah said, Facebook. Reels is similar to TikTok and allows users to create video with popular songs, trends, or challenges for 15 seconds.
Shah says the idea comes from understanding that 45% of Instagram videos are 15 seconds or less. “We also found that stories were not the only way they wanted to post these videos because they wanted to hold them up for longer and be spread outside their followers,” he said in the video call.
The new feature allows users to shoot and share video, add filters and music from Instagram’s catalog, beyond the platform. Users will be able to share Reels with followers in Explore, and also on Feed. For now, there’ll be no options for monetisation.
India is the fourth country to be checked for this new Instagram video format, after Brazil, Germany and France. The feature will begin rolling out to Indian users today starting at 7:30 PM IST.
Instagram has collaborated with popular music labels for Reels to provide users with an comprehensive selection of songs to make fun Reels and share them with others.
Instagram Reels: How to get started
The choice Reels is added to the Boomerang-like Instagram camera, among others.
To start users, open the Instagram camera first, and select Reels to start producing 15 seconds of video. As with TikTok, Reels offers options such as audio from the Instagram Music library, tempo, effects, and timer.
Users will simply pick the audience they want to share their Reel with, after recording a Reel. Unlike regular Instagram posts, Reels can be posted in section Explore and viewed on the site by anyone.
Reels also delivers different AR effects to help users add a unique touch to their videos. Users can open Reels camera to add AR effects, press Effects and then AR effects.
Several 15 seconds Reels can also be filmed at once and can add different effects to each film. Reels can also be scanned, removed, and re-recorded if necessary.
As with TikTok, Reels comes with an option ‘Use Audio’ that will allow others to use your original audio to create their Reels.
How to create Instagram Reels
*On the bottom of the Instagram camera pick Reels.
*Click on the choice Audio and check your Reel for a song from the Instagram music library.
*You can also use your own original audio simply by capturing a Reel like TikTok does for it.
*To make your Reel interesting and different from others, you can add AR Impact, and also set the timer to record any of your clips hands-free.
*There’s also an option for speeding or slowing down part of the video or audio.
