Voter ID, commonly known as EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card), is a photo identification card given to all Indian citizens who are eligible to vote by the Election Commission of India. Voter identification is used to verify voters’ identities, boost productivity, and thwart fraud and impersonation during free and transparent democratic elections. Structure of Voter ID

How to Apply for a Voter ID Card?
There are three ways for an Indian citizen to apply for a voter ID: online, offline, or through semi-online procedures:
1. Online
- The first step for the applicant is to go to the National Voter Service Portal (NSVP) website.
- Select the appropriate option to register a new voter ID.
- An online “Form 6” will open, which candidates must complete in its entirety before submitting. The applicant must also upload a photo and any other documentation pertaining to their voter ID status.
2. Semi-Online
- The first step for the applicant is to go to the National Voter Service Portal (NSVP) website.
- ‘Form 6’ can be downloaded. and provide the necessary information in the form.
- Send or deliver the completed Form 6 to an Election Office in your area, together with a photo and any necessary supporting documentation.
Offline
- The applicant must get Form 6 by going to the closest State Election office.
- ‘Form 6’ should be filled out completely, along with all supporting documentation (such as an identity or address verification). The applicant may deliver the finished application to the relevant electoral office.
- A voter ID will be issued after the form has been verified.
Only when all requested documents and information have been verified, is a voter ID issued.

Procedure to Change from Old Voter ID to a New One
The idea of an electronic picture identity card, or e-PIC Voter ID, was developed by the Indian government. It is a portable type of photo identification that is available in PDF format. Only newly registered candidates—those who registered for voter ID after November 2020 and have a distinct cellphone number—are now eligible to receive an e-PIC.
The government has declared that Phase II of the initiative will include the provision of e-PIC to current Voter ID holders. The following is how freshly enrolled candidates can get their e-PIC.
- Step 1: Log in to the National Voters Service Portal.
- Step 2: On the home page, select the ‘e-PIC Download’ tile.

The candidate must go to the closest state election office or the official website of their state’s chief electoral officer. In order to cross-verify the information, people must first look and see if their name is in the electoral roll. The applicant is required to notify the Chief Electoral Officer of any discrepancies.

Voter ID Correction in Electoral roll
If a cardholder needs to modify or correct any information on their voter ID, they can do so by physically going to their local election office or by going online to the national voters’ service site and following the instructions there.
Do not worry if your details are incorrect. Fill complete “Form 8” with the necessary voter ID modifications, and then hand it in or upload it online to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or other appropriate party. The ERO will process your application and update your voter ID as needed once you’ve submitted.

Didn’t Receive Voter ID? Here’s What To Do
Do not be concerned if you have not yet gotten the voter ID. The steps are as follows:
- Visit the CEO’s official website or your local election office.
- Specify your reference number and any other information you were given when submitting form 6 here.
- ‘Track Status’ should be chosen.
- The status of your application will be updated.
Once you submit your online application, it could take up to 30 days for your voter ID to arrive. You can physically go to the state election office and make any necessary corrections if there are any issues with the voter ID you received.
NRI Voter ID
