YouTube has established itself as the de facto launchpad for the next generation of actors, personalities, and big names. PewDiePie, Shane Dawson, and Smosh, for example, have amassed millions of subscribers over the years by uploading videos to YouTube and establishing ostensibly personal relationships with their fans. From comedians to gamers to vloggers of all sorts, YouTubers have used the video-sharing website to expand their audiences and brands with nothing more than a video camera and a stable internet connection.

We looked at the SocialBlade rankings to see which channels have the most viewers to get a better idea of which stars rule YouTube. We focused on independent YouTube producers, excluding music artists’ and record labels’ YouTube channels, multi-channel networks, and those without a face.

30. Smosh — 25.1 million subscribers
