About Scheme
The ambitious National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) service for the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday via video conferencing. NCMC is a sort of system for automated fare collection. This will turn the mobile into an interoperable transport card from which payment can be made for the services of the metro, bus and suburban railways.
“One nation, one mobility card is one example. Our government has brought about several other initiatives such as ‘one nation, one FASTag’, which made travelling seamless and freed everyone from traffic. ‘One nation one tax’, i.e. GST, has made the tax system comprehensive and removed the tax jam,” he said.
The service is planned to cover the Delhi Metro’s 400-km stretch. This system is called the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, in which the entry and exit of the metro will only be possible through a smartphone. Under the forthcoming Delhi Metro Phase 5 project, the AFC system will completely embrace NCMC, which can be used in any city in the world.
One Nation, One Mobility Card Committee
Under the chairmanship of Shri Nandan Nilekani, the High-level Committee on Deepening Digital Payments (CDDP) also proposed that NCMC cards be available at all transit locations in early 2019. Via NCMC, all new metro and transit payments should be made interoperable. The NCMC idea was floated by the Nandan Nilekani committee set up by the Indian Reserve Bank. NCMC will allow passengers with a RuPay debit card issued by 23 banks over the last 18 months, including SBI, UCO Bank, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, etc.
Scheme Objective
The entry gate of the Airport Express Line was also opened by this card, so that all the Automatic Fare Collection gates located at the stations of this line have been modified. Now, NCMC and Rupay cards, Delhi Metro cards, tokens, and QR codes can be read at these gates.
Major Benefits
- The card can be used for debit and credit card connections and can be used for ATM, train, subway, shopping mall, toll booths, bus service and many other services.
- Also, several banks have begun issuing such cards. You can obtain this card by contacting your bank or through Paytm Payment Bank.
- With the aid of the National Common Mobility Code, the National Common Mobility Card enables you to make financial transactions.
- For any city metro in the world, this single card will operate, so the headache of having various card-tokens will stop at that spot.
- In the coming days, the greatest advantage of this card will be that consumers will not need to hold multiple types of cards.
Key Features
- An automated fare collection scheme is the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).
- The NCMC was initially launched in India on March 04, 2019 with the tagline of ‘One Country One Card’.
- In all transit locations, NCMC can be used, making all new metro and transit payments interoperable with one card.
- The NCMC definition was promoted by the Nandan Nilekani committee set up by the Indian Reserve Bank (RBI).
- This ‘One Country, One Card’ was launched by Bharat Electronics Ltd. in association with the Automatic Fair Collection System (Swagat).
- NCMC Rupees Debit Cardholders can use the metro to fly. If these cards have been issued in the last 18 months by banks such as SBI, UCO Bank, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank.
