After the interconnect use charges (IUC) on such services ends, Reliance Jio Infocomm will again make off-net domestic voice calls free from January 1, once again.
As soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, beginning on 1 January 2021, honouring its promise to revert off-net domestic voice call charges to zero,”Honouring its commitment to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero, as soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1st January 2021,”
The company explained that on-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network. From January 1, 2021, off-net domestic voice calls from Jio to any network, anywhere in the world, will be free. Currently, because of the IUC regime, clients are being paid for off-net voice calls.
In September 2019, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) extended the implementation of the IUC for mobile-to-mobile calls beyond 1 January 2020, after which Jio started charging its customers for off-net voice calls at a rate exactly equal to the applicable IUC fee.
The company said it had told customers that the charges would only be in place until the IUC is repealed by the telecom regulator.
