On Friday, Amazon unveiled its ‘Amazon Future Builders Program’ (AFBP) flagship leadership development program for students enrolled in India’s premier B-Schools, including IIMs, ISB and XLRI, to train them for company leadership positions. The program enables students to gain a breadth of experience in Amazon’s companies over a two-month ‘incubator’ period, followed by a 24-30 month period in which they gain domain knowledge, Amazon said in a statement, in particular ‘Lines of Business’ (LoBs).
The in-depth business experience will be enhanced with opportunities for learning, training, networking, and mentorship, it added. The culmination of this experience would lead to the emergence of students as potential leaders prepared to take on key leadership positions at Amazon,” it said.”
AFBP will be provided at top business schools in India beginning with the Financial year 2021 final placement season. In their respective institutes, interested students will connect to their placement cell, after which selected candidates will be invited to take an online evaluation and video/phone interviews. These selected students will start with the AFBP incubator following the completion of their course.
Each participant (who is now an employee) is part of a two month incubator once they enter AFBP, where they learn about different Amazon companies, including AWS, User, Devices, Finance, Operations, and Prime Video. The applicant joins the line of business they have been chosen for after the incubator and receives domain experience for a span of 30 months.
In order to develop their future careers at Amazon, AFBP has been implemented to provide students with crucible experiences. Within our Day 1 builder mentality, it provides job specificity for positions, provides opportunities to hone highly skilled and general management talent who can take on leadership roles in the future…
Business development manager, category manager, financial analyst, marketing manager, operations manager, product manager and others across Amazon’s various businesses in India are some of the key AFBP job functions. Amazon has launched its flagship development leadership program, AFBP, for students enrolled in India’s premier B-Schools. Amazon India Director (HR) Swati Rustagi said We have worked backwards from the business needs to curate a student recruitment program that offers a unique value proposition.”
AFBP aims to transform students into well-rounded entrepreneurs who demonstrate their ability to think critically, to solve complex business problems, and which have become a part of our unique culture, which allows them to develop a long-term career with Amazon.
