After a lawsuit was lodged against it for allegedly being ‘racist’ towards women, the e-commerce company Myntra changed its logo. The Mumbai-based activist Naaz Patel filed a cyber cell complaint in December 2020 and requested that Myntra modify its logo. For offending women, she had also sought “appropriate action” against the online retail website. The previous logo, Patel had claimed, resembled a nude woman.
Following the complaint, Rashmi Karandikar, DCP, Mumbai Police Department of Cyber Crime, said the logo was also discovered to be offensive in nature. An email was then sent to the e-commerce company about the same matter.
Myntra had ensured that the logo will be updated in a month’s time on their website, app and all the packaging content, and now the company has finally modified the logo.
Netizens also attacked Myntra for their old logo soon after Patel’s observation, and called them out for disrespecting women.
A section of the internet, however, found the whole episode very amusing and didn’t hold back from making memes out of it.
