By Abhik Sengupta: Users can now observe their schools and communities in 360 degrees thanks to Google Maps’ expanded Street observe feature, which now includes the entirety of India. Last year, the feature visited India again after originally visiting a few locations. Last week, India Today Tech noted the nationwide rollout of Google Maps Street View. Due to security concerns, Street View still does not capture every nook and cranny. Additionally, only public spaces are included in Street View. Therefore, it won’t be feasible to take a virtual tour inside such buildings like schools. It is still helpful for taking a journey down memory lane, though.
How to utilise Google Maps’ Street View
Both the browser version and the Google Maps app for iOS and Android support Street View. The feature will need to be manually enabled by users via a toggle. Readers should be aware that Street View can only be utilised to acquire a 360-degree view of a location and that Google Maps won’t provide real-time instructions in this mode. Although it has not yet launched in India, Google is testing the “Immersive View” function, which provides real-time directions in Street View mode. So far, Street View has proven to be a useful tool for researching a destination before making a trip.
For Google Maps on Android and iOS, use Street View
- Open Google Maps and conduct a location search.
- Choose the Layer checkbox next to the search bar in the top right.
- Choose Street View.
- You’ll see blue lines on the map, which indicate that only certain locations are included in Street View.
- Click the Street View button next to the location you want to investigate. Additionally, you are able to move about the environment as if you were actually there.
- To navigate forward or backward, or left or right, use the arrow keys.
- Although the image could appear pixelated, you can also zoom in. You can see the date and time the image was taken at the bottom of the screen.
On The Google Maps The Website, Use Street View
- Open the Google Maps website in your browser, preferably Google Chrome.
- Select Street View in the Layers box on the bottom left after conducting a location search.
- You’ll see that Google Maps is covered in blue lines. Choose the region you want to investigate.
- Like the app, the image date may be seen at the bottom of the screen.
Street View was tested and confirmed to be accessible in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh by India Today Tech. The 360-viewing experience is not entirely available because there are some regions that can only be accessed through static photos.
To expand its reach in India, Google is collaborating with companies like Tech Mahindra and Genesys International. Due to security concerns, Street View on Google Maps was prohibited in India in 2016. That’s mostly because Street View enables users to tour cities using panoramic photographs that have been stitched together. To protect people’s privacy, Street View obscures their faces.
